HM the Queen delivered her speech to both Houses of Parliament to mark the State Opening of Parliament on 21 June.
In her speech, the Queen laid out the Government’s legislative programme for the next two years, including plans for 27 new pieces of legislation, eight of which are directly related to the process of leaving the EU.
Themes of the speech included making a success of Brexit, and defence and action on terrorism, including the setting up of a new Commission on Countering Extremism. Other proposals included working towards a new Mental Health Act, and legislation on draft domestic violence and abuse legislation.
